Minutes of meeting 1-18-2007

Meeting called to order by President Carol Butler at 2 PM with 46 persons present.

Minutes of previous meeting read and approved as corrected re: K’garten class beginning date amended to read 1-18-2007

Treasurers report new balance of $1618.98 (reported by George Jester for Don Worthen).

Old business: The Club Fair went well and Carol thanked all of the volunteers. Special kudos to Phil Spohn and George Jester who were there all through the fair. (Of course the chocolate-chip cookies had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT)

Prez Carol gave a great pitch for the idea of serving on the club’s board of directors.

She explained the simplicity of the responsibilities for the various offices.( I’m not exactly sure how Don and I should interpret that, but, o’well.) She asked for everyone to consider running for office because without officers there is NO CLUB. In this connection, nominating committee member, Chuck Green indicated there has been some new interest in serving.

New business: Carol says the activities department may participate in the funding of the new projector which is needed due to the uninsured theft of our newest one over the summer. It was also pointed out by Carol that, historically we have contributed to Activities but not last year because we were in the process of purchasing the new projector and a new laptop computer and did not have funds available.

Much meaningful discussion and ideas filled the room and resulted in the conclusion that a “gesture” contribution is very much in order. Bob Verreau moved that we donate $150 (US) to activities and Mike Diamond seconded. Motion passed.

George reported the WinXP class for Feb has only 6 openings left. (Jan is full) He also promoted the use of the Club web site for all kinds of schedule and resource info.

Phil reported that the “downloading” class was hi-jacked by the participants, (which was the whole underlying idea) and will now meet on Wednesdays 9-11 AM and will start with the basics and carry right through with installing etc. The Presidents meeting (all the Presidents of the various clubs on the resort) asked that all clubs promote the “Meet the candidates” meetings so that we get a good board of directors for the coming year. It was also announced that 4 KC Royals ball players will be on resort Jan 30th 9:30-10:30 for autographs etc. George demo’d a Disk recovery program which could prove to be vital if you accidentally deleted something from a hard drive or flash drive. This is a terrific app. And as usual George presented it in terms even I understood. George will keep the program disc so it will be there if someone needs it. It will not be lent or given out. See George if you need to recover something.

Respectfully submitted, Steve Gray, Secretary
