TIPS

Sometimes when you need to delete a file, Windows is unable or unwilling to cooperate. It often happens when removing spyware, but there are other situations where it's a problem too. Jim Eshelman recently updated his advice on how to remove stubborn files. One of the ways is the "MoveOnBoot" utility, which I use on occasion myself.

Another alternative is HijackThis. It's a free malware removal utility with the file removal built in. To delete a stubborn file just select the "Config" button, then select the "Misc." tab, and select "Delete a file on reboot". The file will be gone when you reboot.

Confused about DVD drives and DVD media? PCWorld.com covers a wide range of topics on DVD burning. The article on "Picking the Right Media" is very comprehensive example.

SECURITY

Brian Livingston's article, which was prompted by the recent release of WPA2 client software for Windows XP is an up-to-date roadmap for setting up strong Wi-Fi security. The first step is to "Throw out all your old Wi-Fi junk." If you're not ready to do that, you must not want to be well protected. :-)

INTERNET

Consumer Reports WebWatch has rated the 20 health information sites that receive the most traffic on the Internet. Of the 20 sites rated, six were given the highest rating, "Excellent"; five received a "Very Good" rating; eight were given a rating of "Good;" and one site was rated "Fair."

If you're wondering what RSS feeds are, Dave Taylor's answer to "How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?" is one of the easiest ways to find out.

Have you thought about setting up a home network -- wireless or wired -- to share your Internet connection and/or printers, etc.? It's not that hard with Windows XP. Microsoft has excellent information to help you.
