January Business Meeting: We had more income than outgo last month, so we now have something over $3,000 in the bank. [Numbers that big all look the same to me.] :-) That leads in to the next item -- enlarging the Chaparral room.
Discussion about removing the wall is still proceeding in HTCA committees. We may have a bigger room next season, or we may be meeting in NC-2. Either way, we'll need funds for one-time expenses. We should still have money left for a new computer running the new Vista version of Windows though.
The nominating committee presented their candidates for next season's club officers. Carol Butler has agreed to stand for another term as President; George Jester is the candidate for Vice President; Loretta Bard and Lois Haggenjos are candidates for Secretary; and Don Worthen and Dick Devenuti for Treasurer. Nominations will also be taken from the floor before we vote at the February Business Meeting.
Signup has started for "Download, install and get the most out of Firefox". Firefox is a replacement for Internet Explorer that can be customized for many uses. This two segment class will meet on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 from 9 - 11 AM.
Signup will start for "Using Windows Explorer to Tame Windows" at our meeting next week.
George Jester's "Digital Photo Workflow" was moved up a month to next week on the 26th. The AZaac presenter for the first Thursday in February in NC-2 will be Gene Barlow on the subject of organizing your hard drive.

Mike Diamond gave a short but interesting demonstration today on using a free Yahoo! account to access your email from public or borrowed computers when you're on the road. You can set up Yahoo! to pull email from up to three POP accounts (the kind you access with Outlook Express).
Use an existing Yahoo! account or create a new one before you leave. When you have the account open, click on "Options" > Mail Addresses > Mail Accounts > Add. Then, enter the name you want to give the account > click Continue (or configure account manually). Enter the account details (you may want to NOT leave mail on the POP server, because it may fill up while you're on the road), and save the changes.
Now go to your Yahoo! Mail, and you should see your new account listed under "Check Other Mail". Click on it and your email should show up in your inbox. Mucho Importante: Log off of your Yahoo! account before you walk away from the computer. Otherwise, you will stay logged on, and anyone will be able to read your email.
