TIPS, TOPICS and TWEAKS

*Hi-Speed Connections at HT without a phone*
Mike Diamond posted a message on how to go about getting a high-speed internet connection here at Happy Trails without having a (land-line) phone account here. Perfect for renters. (You would get this kind of information directly if you belonged to the HTCC Yahoo Group.)

*Get High Definition TV at Happy Trails now* :-)
Richard Sanford described his setup for receiving HDTV broadcast channels here at Happy Trails. It's free and fairly easy to do, mainly because they all come from Tower Mountain near downtown Phoenix. I'll provide more details later, but you can get a start by going to the Best Buy website and researching Terk antennas. You will want to point your antenna at 123 degrees (magnetic), and use 20 degrees elevation.

*Webopedia*
"The only online dictionary and search engine you need for computer and Internet technology definitions."

You may use or at least recognize the name Wikipedia -- I often link to it in CyberCoyote. Webopedia is also called an encyclopedia, but the entries there are limited to definitions. You can search for definitions, or browse for them in categories at Webopedia.

Comparison: The links here point to results you'd get if you searched for "smart drive" at Webopedia and Wikipedia. Notice that the first has a "Just the facts, ma'am," style, while the second is a full length article. http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/U/USB_smart_drive.html

*Printer Friendly*
Many of you like to print things that you find on the internet. The problem is that most web pages are cluttered with ads, graphics and navigation menus. All of these slow down the process and soak up tons of expensive printer ink. "Printer Friendly is a program that converts the web page to a clean, printable version before you print it. You can download a free trial, and it costs $15 if you decide you like it.

*Free 411* A service of Jingle Networks, Inc. :-)
1-800Free411 is a free alternative to regular directory service (411). You'll hear a brief offer -- like a free trip to Orlando -- during the process, but it really is free. You can either look up phone numbers online, or call 1-800-FREE411 (1-800-373-3411) if you're comfortable talking with a friendly computer. :-)
