NEWS, NOTES and NOTICES

*Business meeting notes*
If you weren't there today, you missed Bryson's record breaking 2 minute business meeting. He promises more excitement next month. See the section below for some of the topics we covered after the business segment.

*WiFi Class Notes*
Reference notes for our current WiFi Class are now online. We've had a lot of fun even though the notes might look serious. I'll be happy to schedule another session of the class if there is enough interest. Or you could home school yourself, but you'd miss the fun. :-)

TIPS, TOPICS and TWEAKS

*Printing just part of a webpage*
Sometimes you'd like to print just part of a long webpage. There's a couple of easy ways to do that. If all you want is some of the textual content: Select (highlight) what you want, copy it, paste it in a text or word processor, and print the text from there.

Another way to print part of a webpage, especially if you want to include an image or two as well, is to select what you want, click "File" > "Print" > choose "Selection" > and click OK. You should get just what you selected.

*Refill those cartridges*
Mike Diamond gave us a few pointers on how to escape the clutches of printer makers and get good prints economically by refilling cartridges. Mike will be posting some links to the websites of some suppliers. They'll be emailed from (and online at) the HTCC Yahoo! Group that George Jester coordinates. If you're interested in more information (or just interested in being more in touch with the club) it's easy to join. Just send an email to happytrailscc@yahoo.com and George will admit you to the group.

*S.p.a.m*
I spelled it that way so your s.p.a.m filter wouldn't block this newsletter. :-) How do you get rid of it. Well, it may take some work. The easiest thing to do is switch to a Gmail account. They have a wonderful s.p.a.m filter. Then there is MailWasher, which is pretty good at cleaning up your existing email account. And I have more advice at the website, including how to get zero s.p.a.m.

WEB PICKS

*Refine search results with Xippee*
Use Xippee to boil down thousands (sometimes millions) of search results to something closer to what you're looking for. There are plug-ins for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and other browsers. Focusing and expanding searches is simplicity itself.

*Don't text and drive*
Jott brings texting into the 21st century:
"Want to send yourself a note? A reminder? An idea? Just pick up your cell phone and dial Jott. The service not only forwards recorded messages to you via e-mail, it also transcribes them into text." --via Lifehacker

That's just the start of what Jott lets you do. You don't enter text by using your tiny cell phone keypad; you enter it by simply speaking. Send text messages to yourself and/or your contacts. Set reminders, for example a wakeup call (your cell phone will ring). The messages show up in your email inbox as well. You can either read or listen to them there.

ODDS and ENDS

*Beer may soon be even better for you*
"The preliminary studies indicate xanthohumol, found in hops, inhibits a family of enzymes that can trigger the cancer process, as well as help the body detoxify carcinogens, according to the science newswire Ivanhoe."
And dark beers will be the best. :-)

*ILS landing at Heathrow*
Ever wonder what the pilot sees when looking out of the windshield if you can't see anything looking out of your window?

*That's all, folks.*
